Disk burning not supported with my external DVD writer?

I have a Panasonic LF-D521 DVD writer. The drive is an internal IDE one that I took out of my PC when I switched to my new PB. I bought an external USB/FireWire enclosure for it. When I plug the drive into my PB (either USB or FW) OSX shows the drive and can read disks fine, but when I go into System Profiler the drive is shown as "Disc burning: Not supported". I've tried several apps that burn DVDs, and they do not work. Is this drive just not compatible with OSX? If that's the case I may end up returning the enclosure and my PB and order a PB with the SuperDrive. I was just trying to save some money and use my existing burner.

Try this. It might just work. If it doesn't work, you might consider getting a different brand DVD burner. NEC has one for about $90 that works if you use some LaCie drivers, and Pioneer has one for $120 that has full native support in OS X.
