Yes. It already was before today's announcement. The only hangup is the price. 1GB sticks still cost more the US$500.

any clue why it is so expensive?
i could sell my 512 chip to help out the cause, but 500 bucks is brutal, thats almost half the price of the machine.

Twice the memory of a 512MB stick in the same space. Higher density chips are rare and expensive to manufacutre. I would simply stick with the RAM you have until the 1GB chips come down in price.
