I have a QS867 with a mac flashed PC radeon 8500. this card has a dvi, svideo, and vga output. i often like to plug my machine into my tv to watch divx movies on it, but ive had one annoying problem, i cant seem to boot w/o something occupying the vga port. does anyone know if its possible to boot a mac sans monitor?

When looking into VNC and the like, I remember reading that Macs need to think there is a display in order to boot up and for VNC to function correctly. Moreover, it linked me to a page for a dongle. I think this is probably your problem.

    Ahh, here it is:

    Q: I'm running a headless MacOS X machine and OSXvnc doesn't work.

A: When Mac OS X starts it will disable certain video functions when no monitor is plugged in. We are looking at ways to solve this in OSXvnc, but for the time being you can purchase a dongle that makes the MacOS X machine think that a monitor is plugged in.__

Dr Bott has one called gHEAD available here.
