Open source VHDL?

Does anyone of a good open source VHDL simulator? The only one I can find for os x is DirectVHDL which is $99 and as a poor college student I can't afford that.

    DirectVHDL is the only one I know of for Mac OS X. If you run Virtual PC, I think there are free tools from Altera (Max+plus II 10.2).

    I haven't had the chance to look into these myself yet but I've heard good thingts about them.
