Using older Java versions

I have a java program that hasn't worked correctly since apple updated the JRE to 1.4...It seems pretty clear to me that its due to a bug in the current version. So my question then is there anyway for me to use the older version of JRE? I'm using the current version of 10.3 and all that jazz
