Did I read somewhere that 9 will not run on the new G5's. Is this true? And if it is true does that mean will not boot in 9, or does it mean that it will also not run in classic. Thanks in advance.
Whether the old G5 or the new, the G5 runs Classic just fine. However, neither boots into MacOS 9. However ... I expect to see Classic on shipping Macs at least until MacOS X 11.0, which may be another 12 or so years away. There is no need to remove Classic. It works. Many customers need it. It doesn't hurt those who don't need it. My Classic System Folder at 292 MB and my Applications (Mac OS 9) folder at 335 MB will fit on a single CD. The combined space that they occupy is a drop in the bucket on my 160 GB hard disk. Hard disks are getting bigger, but Classic isn't.
