And why the two optical drives?
Man those look ugly. They better be quiet!

The ATI 9700 is not ready yet, I believe.
Actually I think it's good to have room for two optical drives. I like this update. And for a pro machine, I don't care as much for the design as for the consumer ones (except for the TiBook)
Kept the old bus speed, though. I guess that's the only 'crippling'.
The low end machine is a BEAST.

Yes, it's good to have a second drive bay but who here is going to get two drives?
I see Apple is charging their usual jaw-dropping rates on RAM.

Damm i want one of the 1.25s
I posted first, and without a spelling error in the topic, so I hope my thread isn't the one that is closed.

Does it reely matter that much to you?
Anyway back to topic
low end looks good but middle.... HELLO!! Dual giga for 600 less, I might have to sell my cube... No too painful to even consider, I'll wait for a
G5!
It must do, otherwise he wouldnt have said it

You'll have one or two birthdays before that happens.
Man do they got these systems priced right and they look super nice.

I find these new systems disappointing.
I was hoping for 1.4 GHz with true DDR -- not the Xserve hack. Now, maybe that was unrealistic in light of Apple's problems with Motorola, but it was a very reasonable hope in light of what current technology can and should produce.
I might have settled for 1.25 GHz with an FSB that took full advantage of the 333 MHz DDR. But we didn't get even that.
Unless some testing and benchmarking reveal that these new systems perform much better than I suspect -- on a wide range of uses, not just a narrow range of PhotoShop tests -- I'll just settle for my TiBook 800 for now and hope for something better -- much, MUCH better -- next year.
We gotta look before we leap. Apple even adding Quasi DDR support is better than nothing.
Is it just me or did Apple add Audio In back or has it been this way for a while?
My ONLY dissapointment is with the low end. 867 MHz w/ 133 MHz system bus? Isn't that what the last low end was? Dual is nice, but IMO Apple should have gone with a 166 MHz bus on the low end. But for all we know, this is Moto's fault and not Apple's.
It now seems clear that Apple is building the fastest Powermacs they can around the crapware CPUs that Moto supplies them with. It will be a fine day of vengance and triumph when IBM finally gives it up for Apple. But these Powermacs will get Apple by until the Power 5 or whatever...figure speed bumps up to around 1.5 GHz, then the G4 will die a slow, painful death like it deserves by living on in Apple's consumer Macs.
Eh, too bad about the system bus, tho, because with a REAL DDR bus, these systems would fscking SCREAM on Altivec tasks!
All around a nice update, but I can see why these weren't hyped at MWNY.
