Powerbook upgrade cycle

I'm finally going to get a Powerbook (17-inch) and was wondering what the update cycle is for the Powerbooks? If I remember correctly, they were updated in April. Based on how frequently they have been updated in the past should I expect anything before January? Does anybody know how the Freescale chips are coming along since those are likely going to be the next chips on the Powerbook? Thanks.
