vro from panasonic DVD camcorder

Thanks in advance for any help. I'm trying to edit some home movies of my son that are taken using a panasonic DVD-RAM camcorder VDR-M30PP using imovie. They are saved on the disk as .vro files (the directory includes the files VR_mangr.ifo, VR_movie.vro, and VR_mangr.bup). The camcorder saves the files as MPEG 1 Audio layer 2 and the audio playback format is mpeg 1 audio layer 2, linear PCM, dolby AC3.

I've paid for QTpro, and the QT mpeg2 upgrade on the advice of the genius bar at the local apple store. But this has just allowed me to view the files in QT.

If I look at the properties it is a MPEG2 muxed file. Have tried export2DV, and MPEG2works to no avail. I can get a demux_*.m2v file using MPEG2works but the audio file is blank.

Any help appreciated.
