anamorphic DVD playback
I want to hook up my Mac to my HDTV to play DVDs.
The TV (23" Zenith widescreen) has a VGA monitor input that only displays at 4:3 ratio (with black bars at the leftover sides). But the TV can get rid of the bars by stretching this 4:3 image to 16:9 to fill the screen.
So, essentially, I want to make this monitor mode work the same way that component video works with anamorphic format, i.e. the DVD player squishes the widescreen movie horizontally to fit in a 4:3 format, then the TV stretches the image back to its proper widescreen format.
I can't get Apple's DVD Player nor VLC to do this.
I am using a DVD in anamorphic format that does play correctly on a regular DVD player hooked up via component video, so I know it's not an issue with the disc.
Any ideas for settings/alternative DVD-playing software?
