buzzing noise 15 inch powerbook

There is a buzzing noise that occurs when the processor is set to highest performance. It seems to be a byproduct of the NAP as it stops whenever the computer is needing to think and it resumes when the computer does very little. Also, disabling NAP through CHUD causes the noise to stop. When CHUD is disabled, the fan comes on after a while, so this isn't a very good solution to the problem (the fan makes even more noise). Is there another better fix for this? Where is the noise actually coming from? The noise doesn't stop when I mute the sound.
