20 gig ipod [recently bought used]

ipod icon is not on desktop

connected via firwire to powerbook 667

when i plugged the ipod in i got

"Do you want to change the link to this iTunes Music library and replace all existing songs and playlists on this iPod with those from this library?"

after searching for a fix for this i was directed to change preferences to

" Click Manually manage songs and playlists..."

i did this.

i was warned that i would have to "manually unmount" the ipod with choosing this option. i clicked ok.

i finished doing what i had to do.

i clicked the button on the lower right hand side of the iTunes window to unmount the ipod.

the button disappeared.

now there is no ipod icon on the desktop.

disk utility does not see a drive hooked up to the machine.

but it's still connected and flashing:

"DO NOT DISCONNECT"

i have to pack up this gear and get out of here.

how do i get this thing unmounted???

please?

Try putting the laptop to sleep, then waking it up.

Or reset the iPod by holding dow the menu and play buttons. As long as you are not transferring data, you should not loose anything.

    thank you for your reply.

i put it to sleep and it wouldn't wake up or reboot... for a while.

finally got it to reboot so i yanked the firewire cable.

    ipod seems to be ok.

powerbook took like 15 minutes to fully reboot.

i guess i should plug them back together and try to make it work properly.

    thank you.
