WSJ's Mossburg- and Apple tipping point

I believe it is only a matter of time before a mass switch

to Macs occurs and this mornings Wall Street Journal should

speed up the process

Walter Mossburg, who also appears frequently on CNBC, writes

that ...'' If you use a Windows personal computer to access the Internet, your personal files, your privacy and your security are all in jeopardy.....

...Opting out: The single most effective way to avoid viruses and spyware is to simply chuck Windows altogether and buy an Apple Macintosh. Apple's operating system, Mac OS X, is harder for the criminals to infect, and the Mac's market share is so small that hackers, virus writers and spies get little thrill, financial gain or publicity from attacking the platform.

There has never been a successful virus written for Mac OS X, and there is almost no spyware that targets the Mac. Plus, the Mac is invulnerable to viruses and spyware written for Windows. Not only is it more secure, but the Mac operating system is more capable, more modern and more attractive than Windows XP, and just as stable.

Macs are as good as, and often better than, Windows PCs at doing the most common computing tasks: Web browsing, e-mail, word processing, spreadsheets, presentations, photos, music and video. The Mac version of Microsoft Office can handle Windows Office files with ease, and it produces files that Office for Windows handles effortlessly. Apple's computers are also gorgeous.''...............

Mossburg is a serious writer and is obviously fed up with Windows shenanigans. He is telling his audience what we here all know about

the Windows and Mac OS'. It is getting this kind of news out that will

eventually raise market share and corporate America should lead the charge!!

He has been reviewing macs for years. I'm sure that this will have some, small effect, but overall the reason why PC's maintain the lead is because most business people considering macs think that everyone else, in a business, will not approve of a new mac. So there's this self-sustaining fear of accepting macs in business.

The only thing I know that's just as retarded is the self-sustaining monopoly the 2-party system has on American politics. 3rd parties have 2-5 percent share of the pie, just like mac users. We're the ones who have backbones, and don't waste time being afraid of what other people might think. Until we can orchestrate a cultural coux that assualts a deeply ingrained fixture of human emotion, don't expect too much.

He'll always be "just another Mac shill" to the PC crowd. Just as Paul (iPod = Pet Rock) Thurrott and John C. (no one wants to use a "mouse") Dvorak will never have credibility to Mac users.

Of course the reality is that Mossburg happens to be right, whereas the others are Win-loving gas bags.

Computer users are as fractured as Democrats, Republicans and Independants/Greens/whathaveyou.

Whatever someone already is is what they are always going to be.

The few exceptions cancel each other out as people switch to whatever OS seems they perceive to be the greener grass.

Microsoft will have to buy Apple, end Windows, and make Intel, AMD etc switch to making Power PC hardware before we see any kind of turnaround.

That said, Apple can do just fine being a "niche" OS. Make profits and attract developers. All you gotta do. Let the others out-bankrupt each other trying to play the lowest cost game. Enough of us will pay for quality.
