DVD Player questions

As someone planning to switch, but hasn't yet, I'm trying to work out what I need to make it as painless as possible.

One thing I use on my PC is PowerDVD and AnyDVD. The former allows me to frame grab from DVDs, and the latter allows any number of region changes.

What would I need to do the same on OS X?

Thanks!

    Former: Snapz Pro X

Latter: typically requires a firmware hack for your drive, I think. Try something like this. Or VLC might do it, not sure. (If VLC does, then that's the best route, as it's software only, no firmware hackage required.)

Another question, that I thought I'd tack on here: Can you zoom in Full Screen on a Widescreen movie? I don't see a way. That is pathetic if you can't. PowerDVD on Windows kind of murders DVD Player.
