Is there any info out on who has the market share in terms of removable media specifically in digital cameras.

From what I've seen, Compact Flash seems to be ahead but there are SD media coming on with some of the newer cameras.

Which one do you think will emerge as the standard? Or will the future be small hard drives?

I don't know the answer to your question, but I just wanted to note that I recently bought a camera with yet another storage media: a Fuji with the xD Picture card. It's really really small, and supposedly uses less power and is fast.

I don't have any statistical evidence. Right now, it seems that Compact Flash (CF) is far ahead because it is still the only flash medium with reasonable cost per MB. That's why my current digital camera uses CF and any digicam I buy in the near future will use CF.

However, the digital camera market is still in its infancy. Even though we've seen rapid evolution of digital cameras over the last few years, there's a lot more to come. My hunch is that the flash storage standard wars are not yet over. CF may be winning the battle right now, but it's too early to tell which standard will win the war.

freaking CF better win! I invested a camera, a 256 module and a PC card into that format!!!

(all damn cheap btw: PC card reader $10 (5 days old), 256 $110-$30 Mail-in-rebate that expired (6 months old), Canon S100 $400 (2 years old)) not a bad setup for ~$525 (+tax/shipping, where applicable)

the camera doesn't work very well anymore tho, i need to get a new one with a better battery... I'm looking into the underwater attachment also... hehe but back on topic: LONG LIVE CF (until something better comes along in 3 years)....

I like Memory Sticks. They look like gum. Gum is yummy. Yummy picture sticks. Want to eat them.

Well, 3.2 Mbps vs 1.2 for the microdrives. But still faster. It's a bummer the thing is designed to be a "drive" not an just an "adapter". <img src="graemlins/oyvey.gif" border="0" alt="[No]" /> Oh, well. And it's Blue! cool.

I got a Lexar CF firewire reader and use it for downloading MP3 in a PocketPC, uploading photos, and general transfer of files between machines

MUCH MUCH faster than USB and plug-n-play in both XP and OSX. Very staisfied with it.

My Canon Digital Camcorder has a MultiMedia format card.....size of a large stamp. They're not quite as common.
