Any notable differences between:

3ivx D4 4.5.1 http://www.3ivx.com/download/macos.html

and

DivX Pro? 5.2 http://www.divx.com/divx/divxpro/mac/

?

Especially in respect to stability of Motion and FCP HD.

Unfortunately I can't say anything for Motion and FCP HD, but in my experience 3ivx works a lot better than DivX pro under Mac OS X for playback purposes.

If you have Quicktime Pro, you can use the free 3ivx quicktime plugin to encode DivX and MP4 compatible video. For some reason the single pass encode of 3ivx seems to be pretty useless, but the dual pass encoding delivers absolutely superb results.

I haven't used Divx Pro for encoding, so don't know how it compares, but it is difficult to imagine how it could be any better than 3ivx for dual pass (which is required to get the best results, regardless of codec/implementation).

3ivx blows it out of the water. With 4.5 now it can use AAC.
