fully charged my ibook g4 1.2 at night and put it to sleeping mode,

the next morning (~8 hrs), battery drops from 100% to 95%,

does sleeping mode cost that much power?

or is that anything i could do to minimize that?

thanks

Umm a standard battery will lose charge even if it's not in sleep mode. I leave my ipod sitting for 2 weeks the battery will drain, my cell phone is the same. i don't really see the issue, but that's me.
