File size?

Forgive me if this has already been addressed but I don't have a whole lot of time to search through every forum.

I've just bought my iPod (40GB) and am raring to start putting music on it. I was wondering if anyone could tell me what the difference in file size would be if I imported at 128 kbps, 160 kbps or 192 kbps? With 40GB of space I could probably do it at 192, and still never have to worry about room, but wanted to know anyway.

Thanks in advance for any help.

    Try this:

My rough calculations on paper seem to work out to about the following (given 4 minute song):

    128kbps: 3.75 MB

    160kbps: 4.69 MB

    192kbps: 5.63 MB

Someone can correct me, since I'm probably off by a little.

    128 kb/sec = 16 KB/sec = 960 KB/min = 0.9375 MiB/min

    4 minutes: 3840 KB = 3.75 MiB

This equals roughly 10,923 songs at 40 GiB of space.

    160 kb/sec = 20 KB/sec = 1200 KB/min = 1.172 MiB/min

    4 minutes: 4800 KB = 4.6875 MiB

This equals roughly 8,738 songs at 40 GiB of space.

    160 kb/sec = 24 KB/sec = 1440 KB/min = 1.406 MiB/min

    4 minutes: 5760 KB = 5.625 MiB

This equals roughly 7,282 songs at 40 GiB of space.

(Unless I also miscalculated, MCQ's calculations are therefore correct.)
