i want to make a complete backup of my hard drive including the os (osx.3) and applications. this is a time saving devbice. if i should have a problem in the future i would like to be able to copy everything back in a fast, efficient way.

Get an external hard drive (80 GB firewire drives are cheap these days), and a copy of Carbon Copy (try searching for it on MacUpdate).

The total cost to you should be under $100, including the registration fee of Carbon Copy ($5 I believe). It makes an exact copy, which is even bootable!
