Who's getting the 12" PB?

Damn, if I didn't already have a TiBook, I'd be all over this thing. I'd been saying since I got my Ti and sold my iBook that I really liked the iBook form, but needed the expandability and power of the Ti. So I had to settle. Now people don't have to. Wow! What a great machine and what a great price.

I wonder how expandable it is. Like HD upgrading, etc. But still, amazing.

So who's gonna get one?

You know I always liked the size of the wifes iBook but didn't like the G3 dog and wanted to future proof with a superdrive. Hummmmm??????

Why is the FW only (ha ha ha "only") 400?

I wonder how the sound quality is coming out of the 12" PB, though. I don't even see a speaker grille, unless it's the little hole at the top. Am I missing something?

If it's anything like the iBook you'll want speakers.

I'll probably get one. I was wanting an ibook for a while now.... the price on the new 12" powerbook is pretty good. I'll go take a look at the apple store this weekend.

I'll upgrade to a 12" PowerBook as soon as it sports a 1Ghz processor and 1GB RAM. The current 12" is great, but there's still some useful life left in my iBook/500. Plus I've told myself that I wouldn't upgrade to any less-than-1Ghz systems, laptop or desktop.

Go here for tech specs. They're at the bottom of the page:

    Ohhh, it's soo sexy...

I think I will wait for the 2nd Gen. though (I should have enough by then) or maybe the next 15.2 incher update.

My first impressions of the 12":

    I want one.

    Wow, it's really small.

    DDR! Wow.

    867 Max, bummer

    Airport Extreme? Cool.

    Kinda thick.

    It's the iBook with a G4!

    NVIDIA GeForce4 420 Go! Sweet!

Holy sh&% you can get a superdrive in that thing!!!

    No Firewire2, dang.

Overall I really like it, but I think I will wait until the next-gen, or the 970 lite to buy one, because I will be able to afford it then

I think this 12" PowerBook is pretty amazing. I ordered one this afternoon.

It also has a third mid-range speaker, so we might just be surprised by the sound...

I wonder why the 12" is thicker too?

Because they have to stack things higher to fit everything in the smaller space, perhaps?

I'll probably get a 12" PB as my next computer.

Seems great. I'll have to see and feel one in person though.

However, the only, and I mean, the ONLY gripe I have is that they seem to have soldered a 128MB RAM chip in allowing only a max of 640MB of RAM.

If I got one, I'd like to be able to max it with a couple of 512s....

    Maybe I'll get a 15"... but I want the 802.11G and bluetooth.

Hmm...maybe I should just spring for the 17"...

ah hell. who knows. Guess I'll just have to wait till I play with one and come up with the cash.

The lighted keyboard would've been great, but it's still show-off-able Getting one.

    Who wants my iBook 500mhz/384 RAM/Jaguar&9.2.2? $650!

I ordered a 12" PB as soon as the Apple store was back online. It gave me a shipping date of 1-3 days but Steve said 2 weeks on the stage so I will probably believe the latter.

I had to give up my iBook 500 recently when I switched jobs. Was going to buy a new iBook and waited for the show to do it.

This book is costing me less than the 500 did when I got it during the keynote when it came out. (Think I had to pay for the combo drive or the bigger hard drive. Can't remember.)

I am as happy as a clam! If it is anything like my old iBook it will be fantastic. Can't believe I will have a Powerbook and a G4.

I bypassed on the superdrive option as we will be getting that on a future iMac.

was thinking of getting an iBook for my daughter for her birthday....perhaps i will get the 12" PB and give her my iMac 800 instead.....now the question of if we really need two superdrives in the house??? will the PB come with iDVD3 if it is not a superdrive PB???

fun stuff...i wanted a G4 iBook and now we have one it seems...i expect the iBooks will get even cheaper....

do you think they will make a PB 12" Special Edition with FW 800 and lighted keyboard....i would spring extra for those two things....g

good call, that's an interesting question, I say no it probably wont. Although he said iLife will be bundled with every new mac, but why would you need idvd if you didn't have a superdrive?

I would have gotten a 12" but I just spent a little more than that on a new synthesizer

it reminds me of that 10"sony laptop, my freind had one in japan, i called it a "life book" cuz you could put it to sleep and take it everywere.

    i could use one of those 17's at work though <img src="graemlins/hmmm.gif" border="0" alt="[Hmmm]" />

I'm planning on getting one, I had some money set aside incase of a tablet of some sorts, but since there wasn't one, I'll just set aside a bit more and spoil myself.

1 GHz will happen, but I'm not so sure about 1GB of RAM. This seems like an iBook with a few updates. They speeded up the bus and threw in a G4.

They probably did have to do some major modifications to use the Airport Extreme card, as it looks different than the current Airport card. Notice that the CD slot is still on the side (and not the front) like in the iBook.

In other words, they've made some changes, but not too major. If the RAM hasn't changed, then it probably won't change until the next major revision.

Still, this is the iBook I was looking for a year ago.

Darn, my iBook is still working perfectly. No need for a new 12' PB.
