12" PB vs. iBook Pics

Found these pics on the MacNN forums... damn the Mini looks small compared to the iBook! Just from reading the specs it doesn't sound that much smaller, but I think it's pretty significant in these photos.

Wow.

Man, I thought the iBook was small.

Well damn don't that make it even harder to resist?

I mean think about the power vs. size of this thing. It wasn't so long ago we were all creaming over the high end 733 mhz TOWER with superdrive for like $3200 dollars and now they have a mini-laptop that is really the size a small book, can burn DVD's edit movies, has a 60 gig HD, it is just insane to imagine.

    I....must....resist......

IMO it is the only laptop that should be considered a subnotebook. The rest are missing something crucial. You may say "So what, I like it small." To me, it's like saying, "So what, I'd rather have one testicle. Smaller, you see."

Holy moly that 12" PowerBook is small!

My feelings exactly. How can I justify waiting for a 1Ghz/1GB upgrade when I could be playing around with this petite beauty a few short weeks from now? OTOH, how can I justify upgrading when my iBook/500 does everything I need right now? <img src="graemlins/hmmm.gif" border="0" alt="[Hmmm]" />

I'm trying hard to be reasonable. My wife would kill me if I got myself a new PowerBook before I got her a new kitchen. Priorities, priorities, priorities...

Won't she need your passed down iBook for a a receipe station in her new kitchen?

I'm going to check one out in person and if it's as ****ing kick ass as it looks I'll get one. Maybe two airport cards for the wife and me

Oh crap she's still running OS 9

    Escher,

You are going to need to film the new kitchen in progress as it is getting demolished and renovated. It would be agonizing to produce that on the iBook!

Certainly, you wouldn't want a teensy weensy quicktime movie of it to distribute and show to your friends or look at when you are old. Hell no, you want it in all its glory. On a DVD!

Go get it! Finance it as part of the remodel. You know you got to have it. <img src="graemlins/lol.gif" border="0" alt="[Laughing]" />

The iBook is 1.35" thick. This new powerbook is 1.18" thick.

    engineers like specs.

Wow, that just clinches it, doesn't it?

Small, BUT loaded with kick-ass power, specs, features, etc.

    Amazing. Just amazing!

BTW, what I'm looking for are more pics of the 12" with PEOPLE in them (holding them, using them, etc.) to get a better sense of scale. The Apple "beauty shots" (along with all these shots I've seen today of the 12" TiBook sitting by itself on the display platforms at Macworld) make it tough to see how small and compact it is, in relation to an actual person.

That airplane commercial doesn't do it because that basketball guy is so freakishly tall.

Just a normal 5'10" guy like me...

Anyone finds some pics like this, let me know:

Unfortunately, she's still happy with out Rev.A iMac. Even worse, my wife doesn't cook much. The kitchen is actually for me.

Silly thing is that I'm going to be doing the demolition and installation myself. Sledgehammer in one hand, camera in the other.

Seriously, thanks for the suggestions, satchmo and kcmac. Both the iBook and the kitchen are just a matter of time.

Hey Norair, real engineers use the metric system! The iBook is <a href="http://www.apple.com/ibook/specs.html"; target="_blank">34mm</a> thick. The new 12" PowerBook is <a href="http://www.apple.com/powerbook/specs.html"; target="_blank">30mm</a> thick. (The later I stay up, the more biting my humor gets. Yikes.)

Seeing those photos and the comparison above...I didn't think a laptop could look that good sitting next to an iBook....the polish, the grain and even the photos of the display look great!

This is one of those few times where even the keynote doesn't do a product justice.
