Apple Retail's "Early Bird Special" Information

Apple Retail is offering a special discount to those who purchase the 12" or 17" PowerBook at their retail stores before the machines start shipping.

If you buy your new laptop at an Apple Retail Store, you get a free t-shirt and the Apple site says that you also get a 10% discount.

Here is the information I found out:

You do not get a 10% discount on the CPU. Instead, you get a 10% discount 'shopping spree' after you get the computer. This discount can be spent on any item in the store except a CPU. That means on your 'shopping spree', you can buy an iPod, a printer, an external Apple Display, any software title, any camera, or any other accessory that they sell. This will also (supposedly) include the AppleCare Extended Warranty, so it's not a bad deal.

Too bad that the deal doesn't include the PowerBook itself, but it's something that people who live close to a retail store might consider.

Also of note, the Salem, NH store says that they are only getting in one of each of the new laptops. He says they are expected to be very crowded in the next few weeks and are anticipating high sales. I got the impression that they have received many calls about them already.
