Food for thought? As for me - I bought the 12' PB in October and I'm more than happy with it.

Unless my work makes me an offer I can't refuse ferrit

Cheers

    the apple web team is just messing around. that code has no reason to be on the page, especially after a footer.

    Not that I think it is coming yet but there was always this as well.

    But perhaps the most interesting confirmation is that Hypertransport has a design win for the Apple PowerBook. This would appear to be confirmation that a G5 PowerBook is definitely turning up and that despite thermal problems, it is at least in the works.

    The seems dubious at best. For example, the link on the mini page is labeled "apple_imac_mini_landing_page", but the computer is the Mac Mini and does not bear the iMac name. When I worked with them, companies like this simply gave us the link to put on the page, and they named it. It's just to track who visits the page, and unless it is a new page there is no reason to change the name when the computer changes, let alone before it changes.

    However, much like the G5 itself, if people keep predicting its coming next week long enough, then eventually they will be right.

    One more thing: you can also find this code:

    <!-- SiteCatalyst code version: G.6.

    Copyright 1997-2004 Omniture, Inc. More info available at

    http://www.omniture.com -->

    So G5 could just as well refer to the SiteCatalyst code version as it could the CPU.

    <!--BEGIN AVENUE A-->

    <img height="1" width="1" alt="" src="http://switch.atdmt.com/action/apple_g4_powerbook">;

    <!--END AVENUE A-->

    anybody can change it to this.

    <!--BEGIN AVENUE A-->

    <img height="1" width="1" alt="" src="http://switch.atdmt.com/action/apple_g5_powerbook">;

    <!--END AVENUE A-->

    Just to prove a point I re-faked the fake on my machine. Took about a minute.

    it wasnt faked. i went to the actuall apple site shortly after this came out today and it was there. apple has since 'fixed' it. i hate all powerbook g5 rumors, so trust me, i wouldnt be lying about seeing it on apple's site.

    I don't think they would fake it either. I just don't think it means what they seem to think it means.

    This could easily be a typo...

    ditto, re: not faked. i checked the page source, myself, too, and found the "G5" snipit.

    that said, i definitely agree with the sentiment that someone at apple IT is just messing with us. i wouldn't be surprised if they ran an office pool for who could guess how many hours it would take for the "glitch" to show up on a rumor site.

    It is unlikely to be a typo as it appeared on two seperate pages. I am however, probably the only mac fan that doesn't particularly want to see the release of a G5pb, I had to save long and hard and take out a small loan to finally buy my first mac (after using them for many years at work) and although I'm more than happy with it a G5pb could be the end of a long and fruitful relationship with my girlfriend

    As I wrote in another thread two days ago:

    ----------------------------------------------------------

    Regarding: "http://switch.atdmt.com/action/apple_g5_powerbook";

    You have similar code on other pages, such as "http://switch.atdmt.com/action/apple_g5_landing"; on the PM page and "http://switch.atdmt.com/action/apple_imac_mini_landing_page"; on the Mac mini page.

    Seems like Apple simply uses some sort of web analysis tool.

    (http://www.atdmt.com/).

    The naming of the fake image *might* suggest something though (are Apple perhaps interested in monitoring how much traffic a new PB will create?).

    However, the "apple_g5_powerbook" tag is most likely chosen by someone responsible for the code just because he/she is also one of us hopeful - without really having access to any info on the matter.

    ----------------------------------------------------------

    Also, as "D.J. Adequate" pointed out in this thread, the "imac" reference on the Mac mini page supports this last conclusion - i.e. that the webcoder responsible for the web tracking tags haven't got a clue on the real names of the products.

    In alles. A strange/cool find - but probably nothing more.

    (I still have hopes for a PbG5 -though...)

    Screw the G5. Check it out, they also have a link to the G7 powerbook!

    http://switch.atdmt.com/action/apple_g7_powerbook

    It also points to a transparent 1x1 gif, so you know it must be true that the g7 is arriving soon!!!
  • Reply 17 of 20
    Would be nice if it was true, but it could be a error by a zealous translator.

    the italian site is clearly a typo, as it is the path to the current page, which shares the same title, and only contains G4 otherwise.

    Earlier rumors did suggest that apple where gonna market the mini under the imac label though...
