Review on iSub....

Does any one have a Pro Speakers/iSub combo? I'd like to know how it sounds. I like the sound I get from the Pro's but I'd like to know how much the iSub really enhances the sound. I've heard it play at my local Apple store, but I can't really appreciate how good the sound really is because there's always other sounds competing against it. I'd really appreciate any comments on this.

if you listen to music with your apple system alot, it is the best 59 bucks you will spend...really fills out the sound and makes it more effortless...system works pretty hard with just the pro speakers...get one today....g

dang how many mistakes can i make in that short of a review???

I'd spend a little more money if possible and get better speakers.

Dude the iSub rocks, Em's right in that the Pro Speakers aren't the best, but they are kinda cool looking.. If you've really got some money burning a hole in your wallet, grab a set of the iSticks w/iSub.

what exactly do you mean by 'system works pretty hard with just the pro speakers'? Does the iSub help the computer process the sound? If so, how? (That might be just the excuse I needed, hehehe)

By the way thanks to everyone for all the input, and please keep'em coming. I really appreciate this!!!

Sorry to post the first semi-negative review, but all in all I would recommend the iSub. It really adds a whole different dimension to the iMac sound and at $59 it's pretty much a steal.

Negatives: Big A/C adapter. Doesn't mute with the speakers. Sometimes gets distorted and won't stop until a reboot.

It could be a flaky iSub, but it really "feels" like poor software for the time being. That said, if you don't mute your system very often it's not a big deal. Also, the sound doesn't distory with music (at least not that I can remember) but more with random sounds like system sounds and maybe SNOOD.

I cannot believe that you actually listen to music with just the Apple Pro Speakers. The iSub is definitely worth it. This combo can't compare to something like the Klipsch Promedia 2.1 system, however if you only want to spend a bit of money and improve your sound A LOT, then the iSub is most definitely worth your money.

I've had an iSub since March of 2000, when I bought one to go with my iMac DV. Sounded great then...made all the difference in the world!

And I still have it now and use it with my G4 iMac 800 (which came with the round Apple Pro Speakers).

I'm completely happy with the sound. I'm not a hardcore audiophile/sound geek, but I honestly use iTunes probably more than any other app (except Mail) and I have no complaints whatsoever.

HUGE bass sound and, as I said, makes all the difference in the world when listening to music!!! Night and day, unplugging the iSub cable and just listening to the two Pro Speakers alone. Plug the iSub back in and WAAAAAAH!

    Mucho basso.

When the little guys are trying to push out the full range of audio two things happen. It does a bad job on the low end. Output that could be used for higher end is wasted doing a bad job on the low end. So when you plug in the iSub the system adjusts the output of the little guys to concentrate on what they do best.

yeah, the OS has the drivers. But for $59 I'd get better speakers, but that's just me.

I'm using an iSub with the iSticks, and I've never had a problem with muting. I only once had a problem with the iSub that required a reboot, and that occurred after a power outage, when I discovered that my UPS (which was fine when my main system was a TiBook) was underpowered for my Power Mac.

iSub plus iSticks sound great... Just finished listening to David Bowie, Fame, and I've got Soul Coughing's Mr. Bitterness going now.

Yeah, the iSub and Pro Speakers looks like a nice combo. I am going to pick up iSub @ CompUSA next weekend, I can't seem to find iSub alone on their web site anymore so I guess I will call them.

Well, I know that the iSticks and iSub work perfectly under 10.2.4. Great speakers, practically unbeatable for the price.

The only problem is the complaints I have is the bass going through the floor! <img src="graemlins/cancer.gif" border="0" alt="[cancer]" />
