What is the reason for the long delay of PowerMacs with the 1.42Ghz processors. Will are they hedging their bets on the MPC 7457 being available?

Perhaps the 1,42 ghz chip is the 7457 which is not avalaible at this time. (remember the story of the 7450 ?)

The Apple store is still quoting 4-6weeks, this has got to be one of the longest lead times for a new product to shipping.

    Huh...no...

Think if you ordered a Power Mac G4 500 in October 1999. You wouldn't have gotten it for 13+ weeks....

    Ummm, short memories people...

The original Powermac 1.25 Gee-it-Hertz didn't ship for at least 4 weeks and more like 6 or 8. Announced in July/Aug and shipped late september.

We recently ordered two of the new 1.42 ghz machines and were told that they would arrive in four weeks. I hope that four doesn't turn into six or eight or ....

I ordered my SP 733mhz G4 the day after it was announced at Macworld. I received it 7 weeks later.

I read alot of about the delay on Apple Discussion board. Terrible. Many people BTO the Mac and Apple can't keep up in their slow production line. Remember only the "not yet shipped" 1.42 model comes with the 4X Superdrive as stock, current 1.0 & 1.25 models need to get it as BTO. Will the Apple retail stores offer customers BTO Macs? I'm sure SuperDrive is a hot item.

    I had to wait 4 weeks to get my Titanium 400 back then. <img src="graemlins/oyvey.gif" border="0" alt="[oyvey]" />

Doesn't any one remember the original iBook launch? I remember that there was one kid in my town who had ordered a tangerine iBook 233 and he waited all summer for it. Finally, he got a tracking number and waited for delivery on a Friday. He went out for like 5 minutes and of course missed the delivery.

So Monday rolled around and he didn't leave the house. The truck showed up and all he got was a letter from Apple apologizing for the delay saying that he would get the iBook in another 6-8 weeks.

He finally got it in late September or early October I believe.

Also don't forget the original iMacs- introduced to the public in May, didn't ship until August 15.

Apple is having problems keeping the A05 in stock for the production line. Currently BTO dual 1.25s with the A05 are going on 3 weeks of backorder. I ordered mine on 2/1 and am still waiting to see if it will ship by the now delayed 2 times 2/25. I don't know if it will happen or not but maybe I can get some freebies out of Apple.

4 more weeks for my damn PBG4 12" apparently, I just got off the phone. Apple always has the crappiest ship times. The lady on the phone when I bought it at 1800MYAPPLE said 1 week.
