Wrestling with the higher-ups -or- Give me Mac or give me death!
I've got some computers to replace. Due to unknown bureaucratic mechanisms we are left to feed off what the College buys in bulk.
We used to operate on a 3-year replacement cycle. Last year, at my recommendation, that changed to 4 years. I have 6 PowerMacs here whose 4th anniversary in my fair building is quickly approaching and they must be replaced.
I inform the BigHonchoMan that I would like to go ahead and replace them with 3 iMacs and 3 PowerMacs.
I get word back from BHM, "It's not clear that we want to buy any new Macs for your department. We should talk about that in person."
BHM is good people, so I'll probably be able to explain why I need to replace these Macs with newer Macs, but I definitely do not like this "everything must be Dell" attitude. Do they not understand the problem with putting all your eggs in one basket!?
