Ok we know the following are the major parts to a computer

OS

CPU

Hard Drive

RAM

Power Supply

Motherboard

Graphics Card

DVD/CD Drive

If one of them could make all of the above components in house.... "would it all be over" -meaning could they offer such a lowe price it would fource all of the others out of business???

Like for Apple they could buy /control

> Hitachi or the like for Hard Drives

> Crucial for RAM

> ATX or the like for power supply

> NVIDIA

> CPU = AMD .........etc.

So I guess the question is would it be worth it ?!

Well, interesting question. I think it would not be worth it on the diversity argument. Right now Apple is able to maintain profits because it can access a global array of products, Hitachi for some hard disks, Seagate for others, etc... (just examples).

Also depending on labour, exchange rates, cost of energy, etc. one month hard drives may be cheaper in China, the next, Indonesia (just examples again).

Right now it would seem that having the world as your component shop seems to offer big advantages because if you buy all those companies you have to try and coordinate everything...

And Apple doesn't have enough money to buy all those companies anyway

Also the old adage not putting all your eggs in one basket...

No..it's not a matter of buying a company and gaining access to their products at "cost" it's a matter of owning the forges that make the semiconductors and other fabrication plants.

Most products that you've mentioned are just groupings of chips (ie Motherboard) so you have to own the factory that makes each little chip on a motherboard and the CPU fab. No one does it because no one can afford it.
