These are not really comparable devices though there is some overlap.
EyeTV is truly a PVR with integrated scheduling and (most importantly) compression. An hour of stored video consumes about 700MB or so with this device.
Formac is DV encoder which also has a TV Tuner. I think they have added some scheduling software but it is not really setup for this purpose. The biggest problem is that it only has hardware encoding for DV. DV is good. It is the native format of iMovie. However, it consumes about 12GB per hour. You tend to use this for encoding video from a VCR, broadcast TV or an analog video camera with the goal of editing this in iMovie.
I haven't used EyeTV but because of the compression the image will certainly be a little worse than that from a Formac. However, considering it is coming from broadcast TV that shouldn't matter all that much.
