G4 to G3 home network question
I am a total newbie to setting up a home network so I have a couple of issues that I can't seem to find the answers to...
1) I just bought the DLink 614+ cable router and set it up to network wirelessly with an iMac and via ethernet, my MDD G4 and B&W G3. All is working fine right now but I am still unclear whether I have a valid firewall set up. Does the router's default off-the-shelf settings give me a good reliable firewall? Or do I have to go into the router's configuration menu and turn on and off ports and IP addresses (scary! since I have no idea what I am doing)
2) My setup consists of my G4/monitor connected through the router to my G3/without monitor. So my G3 is essentially acting as an external hard drive. My question is... is there a way to shut down my G3 at the same time my G4 shuts down? Or will I have to keep my G3 on all the time - I can't shut this machine down since I have no monitor connected to it to see what I am doing.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks

I have the same router, there should be a webadress(in numerals) that you go to to configure all that. We didn't do much because we live in the sticks and aren't too worried about security.

-yeah I know about the router configuration web address, I just don't know how to configure the firewall settings. Or even if they need to be configured in my setup.
