Backing up emails in Mail.app for Tiger install

How do I back up my emails in Mail.app?

I am going to do a clean install of Tiger.

Do I just save everything in ~/Library/Mail and copy them back there once I install Tiger? Will they work with the new Mail.app?

I just logged in to ask the exact same question. \ I was also going to just copy the whole Mail folder from ~/Library, but that's just a guess.

Quit Mail if it is running.

Back up the Mail folder in your home library.

Back up the file com.apple.mail.plist in ~/Library/Preferences/

If you just have the Mail folder OS X won't know about the accounts. Probably if you brought in this older Mail folder and put it somewhere on the disk (not in Library) you could import your accounts. That would be awkward.

I have no idea if this will work with Tiger.
