well yes i am on a laptop, but to eject you have to hold f12 to eject, i thought if you just press it then dashboard comes up. but fn f12 is more work than f8 so ill just use that then. thanks for your help
I have a 5-day old new PowerMac and I just noticed the problem today. Hitting F12 does not launch Dashboard as it once did. It could be something related to fast-user switching.

On a laptop?
Hit "fn" + F12....otherwise F12 is just Eject.
"fn" is the button in the lower left of the keyboard...(short for "Function")
