Get video tape onto my Mac

I'm buying a Powermac 2.7 this week, i can't wait any longer. my powerbook 800 is starting to really feel it's age.



what i am wanting to do is convert all my personal video tapes to DVD. now this should be easy using iDVD but i'm just not sure how to get the footage onto the mac.



do i need to plug a video machine into the mac somehow. do i need any special cables or hardware to do this. And do i need special software to do this??



i am buying an eyeTV wonder. will that do the trick?

    the eyeTV wonder might work, but if not, check this out. there are cheaper alternatives, but i always like paying a little more to make sure my stuff works (audio/video sync, etc).
