back up an iMovie to DV tape: good idea?

I was thinking for the longest time how to properly back up an iMovie project.

I then remembered that I can export to my DV camera onto the tape.

Therefore saving the whole film in DV format, and therefore as uncompressed as possible.

Is this a good idea? Any set backs?

I still have tapes from 10 years ago that work perfectly...

I do that, too. Seems like the only practical way to store large amounts of video, a least for your average guy (i.e. one without access to a massive datacenter to back up reams of video to).

Probably a good idea ZO, if you can keep the tapes safe and properly stored. A lot of DVD(+/-)r media tends to get corrupted over time so you could lose that important piece of video (has happened to me recently).

Only problem I could see is maybe in 10 years time will your camcorder still be in working condition to play that tape? Backup those tapes again when you purchase a 'new' camcorder or format.
