recovering data from a dvd

In the process of upgrading to 10.4, I burned a DVD using DragonBurn to back up data before the install started. DVD checked out ok. Installed 10.4 and went to get data from the DVD only to find the system does not recognize there is a disc in the drive, both internal and external.

Is there any way to get my data back from this disc? I don?t understand why it would be gone when it checked out ok. Any help would be greatly appreciated as I am going to lose sleep over this.

i have since tried various software methods of recovery for dvds, including data rescue x, isobuster, diskwarrior, etc. The trouble i am having is the mac keeps kicking the disc out. it wont mount and i cant try to force a mount since it kicks out. is there a way to keep a disc in the drive? any other ideas?

If you have another computer, I'd try to recover your data using it. Otherwise ask a friend to use his/her computer.
