Camp said that HP's "current plan" is to continue including Apple's iTunes software on its desktop and notebook PCs as it has done since last year.

Under the terms of HP's deal with Apple, the computer maker cannot develop or market a rival digital music player to the iPod until August 2006.

well, that's it for HP's digital music strategy. goodbye music revolution. guess they had to quell the iPod halo effect eating into their own PC sales

if they start now they could come back hard in August 2006 with mobile video/music/ downloadable h.264 clips.

yeah right. i don't even like their printers anymore. the canon pixma has way more affordable catridges and superlative mac os x support.

HP has had a chance to get an very in depth look at the iPod and it's workings. With this knowlege, HP will try to get a player that rivals the iPod in every way thats not pattented.

They still can't until Aug 2006. Read the above quote. They can't develop or sell *ANY* handheld music player until then.

As for getting an in-depth look at the iPod... so has any other company willing to just, y'know, *buy* one and pull it apart. HP wasn't a co-developer, they weren't a co-manufacturer, all they did was resell them. There's no reason to believe they have any more technical information on the units than anyone else.
