Airport 4.2 Killed my Linksys "Airport" PCI card

I am running a beige G4/500, 10.3.9, and a Linksys 802.11g PCI card. The card was working fine, then I ran SW update (it hadn't run for a while). One of the updates that I DL'd was Airport 4.2. After the restart, my Mac could not see any local wireless networks.

Before 4.2, the Linksys could see more networks than my 12" PB. I've tried changing the channel on the base station, switching the base station out of compatibility mode (now g only), and reinstalling the PCI card. BTW, the card is not officially supported on a Mac, but it used to work fine.

How can I begin to troubleshoot this? Its very frustrating, because I cannot get any data about what the card is doing. Does anyone know of sw packages that will allow me to view the wireless data in OSX? I'd like to see some info about what the card is doing.

TIA

I believe this is a known problem where Apple changed or removed some Airport drivers. There is a fix, I can't find the link though.

Do you remember what the fix was? Software? Script?

I haven't been able to find anything.
