Firefox: Memory Hog

I'm really annoyed with the Mozilla developers for making Firefox such a memory hog. When I ran the proper Mac 1.5 beta, the RAM usage was above 70-80 megs at one point (and on a MacMini, that brings my system to a halt).

Now I'm running the G4 optimized build, which is much better, but Firefox still takes up 40 megs and 0.4%-0.5% of CPU while Safari uses about 25 megs and about 0% of CPU.

I want to use Safari, due to the greater efficiency, but the lack of these features annoys me:

1) Type-ahead find (I hate have to do %-F)

2) Lack of url bar keywords (ex gg {search term} for google)

3) Intuitive keyboard shortcuts (SHIFT-%-arrow keys is just dumb)

Safari has one cool feature that Firefox doesn't, though:

Spell checking for text areas.

So it's down to a choice of features vs. low footprint. Right now, despite my MacMini, I've chosen the former.

You realize that it's a Beta, right?

I'm not saying that 70-80MB is expected of a Beta and that it will magically disappear on the final 1.5 shipping product, but it's a Beta for a reason.

I don;t think that is too bad for a browser. I know safari gets big when i have a lot of windows and a lot of tabs within them. Right now with 1 window and 6 tabs it is about 50 megs
