Resetting application Prefs by keyboard shortcut.

I read somewhere that you can reset an applications prefs by using a key combination on the keyboard and double-clicking (launching) the application. Can someone confirm this and supply the correct procedure? To clarify, I want to reset or delete the plist using a keyboard shortcut, not by finding the plist and renaming, moving or deleting it.
