Spotlight Won't Keep External Drive Excluded

I've added my external drive to Spotlight's privacy settings to exclude, and it works temporarily. However, once I disconnect and reconnect the drive, it appears the settings are lost and Spotlight again begins to reindex. Any idea what can be done to make this permanant?

    No idea, I have an excluded hard drive and it stays excluded. What's your set-up?

    It's a LaCie 160 external by Firewire800. As soon as I "eject" it, unplug and plug in again, Spotlight starts re-indexing.

    That's weird - I have a LaCie 160GB FW 400 HD. Umm you could try turning off spotlight indexing and turning it on again (do a search on this forum - you need to go into the Terminal) but other than that I have no idea.
