Problems Playing Videos

I have problems playing videos from a web site I belong to. Sometime the Quicktime Icon appears and the video plays, sometimes it plays as a windows media player video. The rest of the time the quicktime icon appears for a while , then turns in a ? mark and lightens and no video. If I copy it my disk, same thing. If I change it to a .wmv video, it opens in vlc, but no video. Then it , trys to open in WMV , but it has no video attached. I am running 10.4.2. Interestingly enough, when I was running 10.3. I used to be able to download any video that wouldn't open, change to a . wmv and play as a wmv video. That has stopped working with Tiger. I have QT Pro, Real Player DiVx, WMV, VLC,etc. Can anyone help me or at least tell me what is wrong ?

    what do you mean change to a .wmv?



    You should be able to open any extension file with vlc or other similar app... just drag it to the application without touching the filename.
