Powerbook Memory Problem

Evening All,

15" G4PB normally with 1GB ram.

Yesterday I noticed that the lower slot was showing empty leaving me with the upper slot which showed the correct 512M.

I swapped the 2 dimms over restarted the PB at which point the PB crashed a couple of times. 3rd time lucky the PB started.

Lower Slot now shows 512 and the upper slot shows 256.

Ran tech tool deluxe which crashed the PB during the RAM test.

It's all looking like a faulty DIMM currently sitting in the Upper slot, but I've not troubleshot hardware before so, does anyone havee a different view or any good advice for me?

All help appreciated.

Thanks

Simon

Sounds like a bad stick of RAM. Did you get Apple RAM when you bought the PB or upgrade it yourself? If you got the Apple RAM and you're still under warranty, they should send you a 512 stick for free or upgrade it for you at a retail store. If you did the upgrade yourself, contact the manufacturer to see if you can get a free replacement or buy another stick.

    Good luck!

Yep, it's apple memory. I'll call Applecare tomorrow.

    Thanks
