Double click app in dock instead of single click to launch?

Is there are way to modify tho dock so that single clicking *does not* launch apps, but rather double clicking does?

    err.. am I the only one that thinks this is counter intuitive and rather anoying when stray clicks launch apps?

    Try hiding the dock. I hide mine to get more screen real estate, and I suppose it saves accidentally clicking.
