is there software(like gameranger) that lets you pla games like age of empires 2 against windows users from a mac

    Well, Gameranger is really more of a game finding utility. The primary reason you can't usually play against windows users is because most windows games are using Microsoft's ActiveX (or whatever it's called) protocols, and most mac games use Apple's Game Sprockets. The two protocols tend to be incompatible. So no, there really isn't a solution...
