Using Mac formatted iPod on PC?

Just wondering if anyone knows if there is a reason my parents PC tells me to reformat my iPod just to see it pop up in there iTunes? I would like to rip some of their jazz music instead of searching through their collection of the actual CD's, but when plugging in my iPod, it says I can't access it unless I reformat it. Any ideas? They have latest version of iTunes installed, along with latest iPod updater software for their iPod. Thanks.

    While a Mac can generally read Windows disks the reverse is usually not true. A quick Google showed a few applications that can read Mac disks (for example) but I'm not sure how seamlessly that would work with iTunes.
