Mac Mail Application

How do you "recover" the trash icon/folder on the "side bar" of the Mail Application? I lost the icon/folder and now mail. It looks like it combined the inbox and trash folders into one... To delete a message, you have to highlight it and hit the delete key whiich changes the font, when highlighted, from white to black and then I have to kit the command K keys to remove the message... Thanks!
