What's the big fuss over the MacBook Pro?

I am about to join the Apple brigade slowly with an iMac 17" and am wondering why is everyone talking about the MacBook pro - what's so special about it?

Also just noticed they don't even give you the fastest Core Duo option being the 2.33Ghz...

Well, it is the first Apple portable in a long time to sport a processor that is decent by 2006 standards. It's also the first Apple portable to break the horrible 167Mhz FSB barrier that was "original" to G4 processors. It's also the first Apple portable to use an Intel chip, specifically the Core Duo.

All in all, it's the first time it's "Pro" status is actually justified as such.

    By having...

    ...a 167 MHz FSB.

Yes, I realize quad-pumping provides greater bandwidth, but the "actual" clock speed is still 167.

The 2.33Ghz T2700 is the fastest Core Duo announced.

And expected to ship in Q3 2006 instead of Q2 2006 according to Kasper's Automated Slave.

That means that the 17" MacBook Pro will probally utilise one of these, or it will get the first badge of Merom processors.
