iPod won't turn off

Okay, so noticed today that my iPod will not turn off. Press and hold play and nothing happens, other than changing the current song to pause or play. I'm wondering if the iHome radio/dock station might be to blame? I can turn the iPod off when it is docked into the iHome, but not on it's own. Any thoughts on what to do?

My mini did that ONCE a while back...

Leave it alone/playing (unplugged from any dock) and let the battery completely drain... it will then shut itself off.

When I recharged it, everything worked normally again... has been turning on and off normally for nearly a year now with no further hiccups.

Have you tried resetting it? (Press and hold both Menu and center button)

Resetting through the iPod menu did not work, but holding the button combo. down got it.
