Direct Connect for Mac OS X?

Direct Connect is yes a filesharing program like KaZaA but its peer to peer... Its users share everything from applications to even Playstation and Playstation 2 games. I'm able to run the Windows version under Virtual PC, a PC emulator that runs Windows, here on my iBook. Sorry if i didnt make myself clear before. I know that it wont be an easy task to make a mac port but do you think it would be possible? I'd support the project 100 % if it were started. I'd be the main beta tester...



Anyway.. post your comments on this issue that I've brought up.

    Don't expect everyone here to rush to port a program for you they've never used or even heard of before (I've never seen this DC until you just posted it). There are a *LOT* of apps people want ported and, seeing as you didn't even give a description of what this is, I doubt anyone will be interested some random one an unknown guy comes and posts.







    I'm not trying to discourage you. I'm just asking you to be a little bit more realistic with your expectations.



    That said, I just looked at the screenshots for DC and -- ermm -- what exactly is it? It looks like some kind of KaZaA or Hotline/Carracho clone. Sheesh, how many more of these do we need? Anyway, if that's the case, a simply port will not be an easy task. All of you networking code will probably have to be rewritten. The entire GUI will have to be written from scratch. All in all, it wouldn't be a pleasant task and thats why you need to have patience and keep looking elsewhere for other people who may be interested in DC. For that matter, you should probably change the title of this thread (click the Edit button on your first post) to something more appropriate like "Need help porting Direct Connect to Mac OS X" or even simpler "Direct Connect port for X?"

    Well, I researched it and Ive found out that there IS a DC client coming to Mac OS X!! JOY!! but theres no set release.. I emailed the company but they havent replied yet.

    its not mainly for porn. its based on hubs.. you'll understand when you start using it...

    I downloaded the exeuctueable .jar file.... but how do i run it? what do i need to run it?

    DC is huge. I also use it under VPC but cant wait for it to come out for OS X

    I know the guy who started Direct Connect. He's a really cool dude (he's a programming genius too) and he's currently working on a version for OS X. It will be out soon.

    well, you pop it in the folder made by expanding javadc-0.20.tar.gz, you downloaded that too right? and then double click it.

    iSwipe should add compatibility. Seriously, if iSwipe actually worked, and downloaded actual files out of the billions it must be searching...



    Popmetal, you are aware of the history behind your username, right? I hope you're not the old pop-metal/mad-tool/whatever psychotic experiment of 68k that was.:-D



    Now, the only important thing: can you search by *bitrate* on this Direct Connect? Since Napster I haven't seen anything that can do this, have a huge selection, and work, reliably. Maybe I'm just stupid, because everyone and their brother seems to have some new-fangled file-sharing service they like to brag about, but I miss Napster.



    iThought iSwipe would be the cure. But it's unstable, and when it does get a queue going, nothing ever actually downloads! What's the best program someone who just cares about hi-fi (contradiction in terms) MP3 music should use? *bitrate* searchable of course!
