Where is the best place to get free fonts for OS X? Specifically I am looking for the Cheltenham and Imperial fonts. But in general it would be nice to know of some sites that offer free fonts. Thanks.

MacOS X natively handles fonts in virtually all formats--Type 1 (MacOS, MacOS X, Win), Type 1 GX, True Type (MacOS, MacOS X, Win), True Type GX, and OpenType. The upshot is that you don't have to search for MacOS X-specific fonts. A Google search on "free+font" will reveal quite a lot. To get you started, take a look at the bottom of this list or the top of this one. Notice that the "italic" fonts are not really italic.

The legitimate versions of Cheltenham and Imperial are quality fonts. Those freeware knock-offs are examples of what gives True Type an undeserved bad reputation.
