How long do you guys think Steve Job's knew the transition to x86 would happen?

Obvioulsy they had been preparing for it since the birth of OSX, just in case. But how long do you think he knew for sure the transition would definitely happen? And if it was a year or two prior to his announcement, what do you think was going through his head when introducing new power based hardware before his transition announcement?

I'd like to look back on some of the slightly older macworld videos to see if I could read into anything.

The day before he announced it

the truth would be one year +.

these types of deals have many sticking points, that need to be ironed out before anything could happen.

When IBM failed to deliver the chips for the G5 iMac. Apple went 2+ months with no product to sell. I bet Steve told his staff to activate the Intel contingency during the summer 2004 MacWorld.
